Make It New Years

Another 10+ days without a blog post. Well, between the myspace address, the flickr account, the Phoenix page the Make It New page, it’s not like we’re falling asleep over here!

Thanks a ton to the Thunderdome 2 crew. Between Mike (Brilliant Mistake), Red Foxxworth (Thug Casino), Baltimoroder (Hearthrob), Morgan Louis (Pop Providence) and MiCL PTVN it was a tremendous success. Pics here. Rumor is they kick it again the Friday of MLK weekend. Get on their myspace to stay informed. We also rocked the Enormous Room on Saturday (McKay slayed with old-school prom-style hip-hop), Make It New on Thursday (big props to Baldur the Icelandic king of the electro-house breakdown) and threw in a set at the after-hours club Rise for good measure:

The DJ booth was like the cockpit of a jet fighter. Totally crazy intimidating style. But playing to a crowd that actually wants to listen to techno and knows the tracks was totally refreshing. Thanks to Paul Dailey for the invite. Now Mr. Dailey, you got to bring in the rest of our MiN people, especially Erik.

A few things brewing. First off, tonight we join with album of the year candidates Spank Rock at the new Paper-style party called Throwed.

Cost is a reasonable $7.00 so if you’re going to go to a party before the XXXmas season, this would definately fit the bill. Rumor is Spank Rock MC Naaem Juwan is going to spit some new verse and it’s also the return of Emerson DJ (Revolutions R.I.P.) and local celebrity DJ Gina Turner.

From All Skate parties in Dorchester to the tres chic Viva-Radio to the way-hot All Disco party in NYC (R.I.P.) Mssr. Colbourne is hailed as a rare disco and italo disco EXPERT. His collection and knowledge knows no end. And if anyone knows waist-winding rare grooves it is this man.Check out Colbourne’s latest mix here.

As for the movie, Speaking In Code, our Director and Director of Photography are almost finishing planning for the final leg to Germany and we’re really excited our people over there are coming through. I can promise it will be worth your while. We’re looking at Berlin and Jena one more time. Wish them a safe trip (it was Amy’s birthday today as well).

Before that, we are headed to New York City to catch one of our favorite DJs: Superpitcher who’s playing the We Are Robots Xmas party:

Superpitcher (Aksel Schaufler) is an integral part of the Kompakt empire. His luxurious sets combine the romance of old Europe with the crisp glamour of the darkest nightclub. It’s a good send-off before the holidays to be sure.

One of the funnier clips of the film we’ve watched is Superpitcher’s interview inside the Kompakt kitchen, when he spends a good amount of time talking about shoes and how important shoes are to his style.

Here’s a remix he did for Mute Records of German pop star Andreas Dorau — pretty indicative of Schaufler’s tamed exuberance. Most times, his tracks take you right to the edge of release and keep you simmering. This one is no different:

Andreas Dorau - 40 Frauen (Superpitcher Remix)

If anyone can clue us in on the lyrics, feel free to comment.

  1. truchement Says:

the lyrics of ‘40 frauen’ are pretty simple, bit of nonsense: ‘40 Frauen mit lang-schwarzen Haaren durchwandern die Auen’ - translated: ‘40 women with long-black hair are walking (more precisely: hiking) across the meadows’ … nothing more here …

  2. elizabeth Says:

Vierzig Frauen mit langen schwarzen Haaren / Durchwandern die Auen – vierzig Frauen

Forty women with long, black hair / Wandering through the meadow – forty women
