For two years, Make It New has been the home of new electronic dance music in Boston. Supported in part by local music distributor Forced Exposure, DJs David Day, Billy Kiely and Erik Pearson have brought you new techno and house sounds since 2004. Mike Uzzi from local techno collective unlockedgroove was a founding member and the new addition of resident DJ Alan Manzi brings and added vibe of Deep House and Techno.

With no cover charge and the exquisite modern style of the Middlesex Lounge as a backdrop, Make It New has housed 5 hours of new sounds and the dance party that ensues well over 70 times.

Mike Uzzi, a founding resident at Make It New says “the DJs have really worked to develop a loyal and enthusiastic crowd. 2 years is a long time for an electronic music night to stay alive, especially in Boston.” “It’s privilege to play for such down to earth, real-deal music heads,” says James Friedman, New York DJ and past Make It New guest. Local music-maker and robot-builder Dan Paluska says: “So many of my tracks we’re inspired by DJ sets from Make It New.”

The three main residents all contribute to the vibe. DJ Billy Kiely is the Head of Sales at Forced Exposure and a native Bostonian. DJ David Day is co-producing a movie (”Speaking In Code”) about characters from the global techno underground and is Label Manager at Forced Exposure.

Erik Pearson is a tremendously gifted DJ and a producer in his own right. “Between a fluctuating student populations, restrictive blue laws, rockist history and NY-envy, Boston can be a difficult place for a dance night that doesn’t attempt to please everyone,” he says. “The 2nd anniversary is special because it helps prove there is an audience in Boston for modern and unfamiliar music.”

To celebrate, Make It New is bringing in two unknown live acts and one world-renowned DJ. Yard, recording artist for German label Plong! and Boards of Canada’s original label Skam will bring a live set from the city of Chicago. Popnoname will play live also. He hails from the techno mecca of Koln, Germany and has recorded for esteemed labels like Italic and Kompakt. Juan Maclean, a friend and past guest at Make It New, is part of the cutting-edge DFA label fronting his live band. His DJs sets represent the original sound of techno (Detroit DJ Juan Atkins inspired Maclean’s stage name). Juan is back in New England after months touring the world as a DJ.

Make It New residents will DJ throughout the night.

It all goes down Thursday, October 19th.

To accommodate our travelling guests, there will be a cover charge of $5.00.

Come celebrate the remarkable accomplishment that is Make It New: presenting new dance music for over 2 years.

Make It New’s second anniversary is a part of the N.E.S.T. experience.
